Optimal Power Transformation and Inverter Modernization with Utilizable Strategies

Where the methods get tested

A proposed method is demonstrated with experimental results, at laboratory scale at minimum. The lab is in the Renewable Energy Research Building (C10) on the GIST campus: study room 315, meeting room 316, and the experiment room 318.

Experiment room, 318

Experiment room, 318 — Grid-connected inverter benches, an ESS cabinet, and a machine test rig. Power conversion up to 32.9 kW can be handled here.

Machine drive bench

Machine test area — Two motor–generator sets are available for experiments on electric machine drives.

Study room, 315

Study room, 315 — Each member is given a desk with a PC and two monitors. MATLAB, PLECS, Altium, ORCAD, Ansys EM & HF, Vivado, and Mathematica are licensed.

Bench and instrument area

Bench and instrument area — Board assembly, rework, and measurement alongside the study space. A separate meeting room, 316, holds a personal cabinet for each member and an all-in-one PC for remote sessions into 315 or the laboratory.

Hardware-in-the-loop simulation

Hardware-in-the-loop simulation — OPAL-RT and Speedgoat real-time simulators. A controller is verified against a virtual inverter and plant before it meets real power.

Paralleled inverter test bench

Paralleled inverter test bench — Two-level converters in parallel through a transformer for circulating-current and synchronisation studies.

Measurement

Power analyzer, oscilloscopes, and high-voltage and current probes. A 20 kW DC supply and a 30 kW AC source feed the benches.
